Dr. Laith Mahmood DDS, MD.
Dr. Laith Mahmood is a board certiﬁed Oral and Maxillo-facial surgeon. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 2001 from the University of California Riverside, and went on to pursue a doctorate in dental surgery from the prestigious UCLA school of Dentistry, graduating in 2005. He then went on to complete a one-year General Practice residency at the Monteﬁore Hospital in New York, afﬁliated with the Albert Einstein school of Medicine. It was during this year that he felt the calling of surgery and thus he applied and matched to the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program at the University of Texas School of Health Sciences in Houston.
He completed his medical school training with the University of Texas at Houston in 2011 and ﬁnished his Internship in General Surgery at Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical center the following year. He completed his general anesthesia training at Ben Taub General Hospital. Dr. Mahmood completed the United States Medical Licensing Examination steps 1, 2, and 3 and is certiﬁed in basic and advanced cardiac life support as well as Pediatric advanced life support.
He completed 4 years of Oral Surgery training with the University of Texas at Houston School of Dentistry and was given the status of Chief Resident for his last year in 2012 – 2013. In total, Dr. Mahmood has completed 11 years of graduate surgical, medical and dental education.
n addition to the rigorous clinical and surgical training he has undergone, Dr. Mahmood has also given numerous lectures throughout his residency career on topics ranging from cosmetic surgery to facial trauma and infections. He has been the presenter at facial trauma conferences and regional oral surgery conferences. Dr. Mahmood has publications in the renowned Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery as well as authorship in a textbook of oral pathology. He greatly enjoys public speaking and education and will always take the time to explain any aspect of a disease condition or treatment to a patient and their family in terms they can understand.

Training and Scope of Practice
After four years of postgraduate dental education, an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon completes four or more years of intensive, post doctoral hospital-based surgical residency training. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residents spend signiﬁ cant time rotating through related medical ﬁ elds such as internal medicine, general surgery, anesthesiology, otolaryngology, plastic surgery and emergency medicine. Some surgeons (such as Dr. Mahmood) opt to complete the necessary requirements to earn a medical degree.
